Maria Sharapova Shows Off Blinking Phone Dress

Maria Sharapova Shows Off Blinking Phone Dress Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova showed off a prototype dress designed to light up when the wearer's mobile phone rings. British fashion student Georgie Davies created the knee-length short-sleeved white cocktail dress as part of a school project with mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson to figure out ways of incorporating new technology into fashion.

Davies said the dress was designed to be connected to the wearer's phone by Bluetooth wireless technology, so that she can be alerted when their handset rings in the noisiest of places.

When you're in a pub or a bar, you can never, ever hear your phone, said Davies.

From one shoulder down to the hip, the dress is embellished with interactive white scales, inspired by butterfly wings, that move and light up.

Georgie's winning design presented a completely different look at how fashion interacts with technology, said Maria Sharapova. "Everyone has shown such creative flair and I am really impressed with all the designs.

Sharapova displayed the dress from the window of a luxury department store in central London.
